Biography

 

Marié Stander is best known as a figurative artist, working in a variety of media, although specialising in charcoal. Her inspiration comes from the people that she knows, loves and cares for - mainly members of the community in Jamestown, near Stellenbosch where she lives with her family. She speaks with warmth about the community, and says that with all their triumphs and tribulations, they form a great source of inspiration for my work, which she captures in realism.

Marié is also an art teacher and runs a private art school. The school produces a high standard of work and has regular art exhibitions and an annual charity art auction.
